Publisher: New Delhi Journals Pub 2022Edition: Vol.5(1), Jan-June.Description: 1-12p.Subject(s): BUILDING CONSTRUCTION (BT-CON)Online resources: Click here In: International journal of sustainable building technology (IJSBT)Summary: Rework is redoing a task or activity for more than once due to its non- compliance to the original scope of work. It is a non- contributing work in the construction process. The tremendous impacts of rework are not limited to the cost and time overrun in a project but also extends to the indirect aspects such as client dissatisfaction, disputes, loss of reputation and demotivation. Further the impacts extend to rescheduling the project deliverables, working methodology, which hampers the overall productivity of the workers and thus imparts a negative effect on the overall project in terms of efficient working. There are various determinants of rework in the pre- construction and construction phases of a project. Although rework scenarios lead to the direct and indirect impacts, their long-term negative effect can be prolonged if the reworks remained undetected. To accomplish this, it is important that the negative effect of rework is quantified. The research intends to evaluate the rework cost and the cost of prevention of rework, in civil works in pre-construction and construction phases, by identifying its root causes and analyse a prevention measure with the cost associated with it.
